Writing essays and papers is not easy for me and it has always been a bit of a struggle. So when I get assigned an essay or something, I have to go through a whole process before I even start typic or writing anything down. The way my brain works, I have to have a plan for everything I do. I have a hug planner that I write in everyday. When I say I write in it everyday, I mean I write full length explanations of exactly what I need to do to be prepared for the next day of school. Planning things out really helps me to stay organized and see the big picture better, and it helps to understand what I am writing about.
One method I do to plan out my writing is ask myself questions. It might sound weird but it actually helps a lot. First things first, I ask myself “what is this paper about” and then I write the answer. Then, I ask myself “what do I want to say about the topic” which usually turns out to be my thesis statement. Next, I come up with the main ideas and supporting details which takes a bit of contemplating. Finally the hardest part of them all, coming up with the introduction and conclusion paragraphs. The conclusion isn't that hard because it is just restating what is said in the rest of the paper, but the introduction may take me hours to even come up with the first sentence!
My process is all about having a plan before anything and it usually helps me a lot and my writing has improved throughout the year using my technique. What kinds of things do you do to help you write? I would really love to hear what others do to improve their writing!
