I have noticed that different teachers, depending on the teacher and the subject, have very different styles of teaching that, in part, effect the way that students learn. When I was a freshman, my teachers were a lot more accommodating and were more involved in our learning. I'm not saying that my teachers now are not accommodating, but they give us as students a chance to lead our own learning experiences. For example, freshman and sophomore year I remember most of my teacher doing guided notes, giving a lot of extra credit (don't get me wrong I love some extra credit!), and giving fun worksheets that helped to understand the lesson. Now, most of my teachers do lectures and let students take notes on what they want to. It is up to the individual students to take control of what they need to do well in their classes.
My favorite style of teaching, or the style that helps me to learn best, is when teachers are organized and have lessons but still have that independence. I like when we learn a topic and each lesson builds off of the previous so I can get the big picture at the end of the semester, class or chapter. I am a very organized and logical thinker so it helps to start simple and work my way up to the more complicated stuff. With this thinking, it is better for me to have teachers that are very organized too and don't just teach lessons in any order. Another teaching technique I like is when teachers have a PowerPoint presentation while they are lecturing. It helps me to take notes and keep track of what they are talking about. Also, I would rather take notes than do a science experiment. For some reason it doesn't help me as much as notes do.
