Throughout the course of this year, I have learned a lot about writing, learning, and most importantly how I learn. In the beginning of the year when we started class, my attitude towards writing was not good. I dreaded writing papers or essays or anything that required me to structure my thoughts onto paper. The most important thing that I learned about myself this year is that I don't hate writing as much as I thought I did. Writing has actually become a great outlet for me to express my thoughts and connect with others through their writing as well.
Of the different learning styles that I wrote about in my first post, I feel that I am a not just one kind of learner, especially depending on the subject. I am a logical, visual, physical, and social learner. I can easily make sense of situations and learn from the outcome, I like to see things happening for myself or imagine them in my head while a teacher lectures, and while seeing or imagining what I am learning, it helps me to be able to touch and get a feel for what I am learning while it is right in front of me. And last but not least, I am also a social learner. Throughout the year, we did numerous discussions about books, movies, and poems and I learned a lot by listening to my peers. It was interesting to get the point of view of others and consider how they interpreted the literature we read.
One last important thing that I learned is being open minded. I realized that there is no better way to learn about and explore different experiences, people, and interests than to let yourself accept and be intrigued by new and exciting things. Finding and commenting of other non-OHS blogs has introduced me to some of those new and exciting ideas.
I learned some very important things about myself, about what I like and don't like, and about my writing and learning. What kinds of things did you learn about yourself throughout the course of the year?
